Last September 2007, we started a monthly gathering for young professionals and university students, and we called it “Friday Nite @ Granite”. We start first with something spiritual, a meditation given by a priest. Then, it is followed by a buffet dinner and then, an informal gathering during which one of the participants speaks or makes a presentation about some topic related to his professional work, for example medicine, finance, social work, genetic engineering, etc. I will be uploading some of the photos taken during the activities. So, look forward to seeing them soon!

As planned, we went biking for about 3 hours this morning. The weather could not have been better! Ronald was able to join us as he is back from London for a few weeks of holiday. Andrew brought his brother Joshua. Their Dad came as well. The 3 of them brought their own foldable bikes. The other bikers were Gabriel, Richard & his Dad, Aaron and Francis, who was the only one who came in complete biking gear - helmet, protective knee and elbow pads, and everything. The trip went smoothly. We biked along Shing Mun River. Then, we left the riverside and turned towards the Science Park just across CUHK on the other side of the road. We stopped for some refreshments and continued further north all the way to Taipo Seafront. On the way back to Shatin were we returned the bikes, we stopped only once to eat some fishballs and to say “bye bye” to Andrew, his brother and his Dad, who went straight home in their bikes. The rest of us ate lunch at a very crowded fastfood restaurant before going home. We’ll try to do something like this again perhaps during the Easter break. Hope you don’t miss the next biking trip!

We visited a Catholic family with three very young daughters in Sham Shiu Po. When we arrived at their house, only the two daughters and their grandmother were present. The eldest daughter didn’t arrive until an hour and a half later. For the meantime, Joey and Chris taught the two of them in various subjects to prepare them for their examinations in school the following week. Felix and Holvert prepared games that they were going to play after they finish studying. When the most-awaited moment arrived, we heard the voice of the eldest daughter at the door. She has just arrived with her mother. The games started without delay. They enjoyed every game we played, especially the game called “Cobbler, Cobbler”. When it was time to go, the grandmother invited us to stay for lunch. Despite her insistence, we politely told her not to bother. We were only too aware of how much work we would cause the 60 plus year-old woman just to prepare food to feed the four of us.

We visited a couple of old ladies in Nam Cheong Estate, Sham Shiu Po. One of them had 3 granddaughters. Sunny and Anskar organized some indoor games with the 3 girls, which they enjoyed very much. The first game was called “Hangman”. The girls had to guess the letters contained in a word that Sunny and Anskar had in mind. Each time they guess wrongly, a part of the “Hangman” is drawn. They should be able to complete the word before the “Hangman” is completed. Otherwise, they would lose. The second game was to give the English translation of some very simple words written in Chinese. The first one to give the correct answer wins the game. The third game was the most exciting one. The girls had to look for the orange which Sunny and Anskar hid inside the house. When they got close to the object we said “Ring, ring, ring”. When they walked away from it we said “Bell, bell, bell”. It took them awhile to find the orange. Do you know why?
